What telehealth counseling is
Telehealth counseling is simply therapy that happens over a secure video connection instead of in a physical office. You meet with the same licensed counselor, in a real, face-to-face conversation — only you're joining from your living room, your office, your parked car on a lunch break, or anywhere you can find a quiet, private moment. The relationship, the listening, and the care are exactly the same. The only thing that changes is how you walk into the room.
For many people, that small change makes all the difference. There's no traffic, no waiting room, no rearranging your whole day around a 50-minute appointment. You log on, talk things through, and get back to your life with less friction and more support.
Available to anyone located in North Carolina
Because our counselor is licensed in North Carolina, we can provide telehealth to clients anywhere in the state — as long as you are physically located in North Carolina during your session. You do not need to live near our Raleigh office. Whether you're in the mountains, on the coast, in a small rural town, or right here in the Triangle, you can be seen. North Carolina law requires that you be in the state at the time of your appointment, so telehealth is for residents and anyone physically present in NC when you meet.
The same services, now online
Nearly everything we offer in person is available by telehealth, with the same depth and quality of care. That includes anxiety counseling, depression therapy, grief and loss counseling, marriage and relationship counseling, and life and career coaching. Whether you're navigating a hard season, working through old wounds, or simply wanting to grow, we can do that work together over video.
How it works
Getting started is straightforward. First, you request a free consultation. Next, we email you a private, secure video link before your appointment. Then, at your scheduled time, you click the link and join from your phone, tablet, or computer. There's typically nothing to download — just click and connect. We'll guide you through anything you're unsure about beforehand.
What you'll need
The setup is simple. You really only need three things: a private space where you can talk freely without being overheard, a device with a camera and microphone, and a reliable internet connection. Headphones are a nice extra for privacy and clearer sound, but they aren't required. Most clients join from a phone or a laptop without any trouble at all.
Telehealth may be a great fit if…
- You have a busy schedule and can't easily fit in travel time.
- You live in a rural part of North Carolina without nearby counselors.
- Mobility, health, or transportation limits make in-person visits hard.
- You can't find a local faith-friendly counselor you connect with.
- You simply feel more comfortable opening up from your own space.
Privacy & security
Your privacy matters deeply to us. Telehealth sessions take place on a secure, confidential, HIPAA-conscious platform, and your conversations are kept just as private as they would be in our office. We encourage you to join from a quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted or overheard, and to use headphones if others are nearby. What you share stays between you and your counselor.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person?
For most needs, yes. Research and years of clinical experience show that video counseling is just as effective as meeting in person for concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship struggles, and coaching. Many clients actually find it easier to stay consistent and more comfortable opening up from home. That said, there are times when meeting in person at our Raleigh office may be preferable — for example, during an acute crisis or simply when face-to-face connection feels important to you. We'll talk it through and help you choose what serves you best.
Who telehealth is great for
Telehealth is a wonderful option for people with full schedules and little margin, for those living in rural North Carolina far from a counselor, for anyone with mobility or health limitations that make travel difficult, and for those who simply can't find a local counselor who shares their values. If any of that sounds like you, online counseling may open a door that felt closed before.
Logistics & getting started
Your telehealth sessions are with Ginny Porowski, LCMHC, who is currently accepting new clients for counseling and coaching. We always begin with a free 10-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and make sure it's a good fit, with no pressure either way. Individual sessions are $160 for 50 minutes. And if you'd ever prefer to meet face to face, our in-person office in Raleigh is always an option too — many clients move comfortably between video and in-person as life allows.
